Chapter 5

1 Now Naaman,5283 captain8269 of the host6635 of the king4428 of Syria,758 was a great1419 man376 with his master,113 and honorable,5375 6440 because3588 by him the LORD3068 had given5414 deliverance8668 to Syria:758 he was also a mighty1368 man376 in valor,2428 but he was a leper.6879

2 And the Syrians758 had gone3318 out by companies,1416 and had brought7617 away captive7617 out of the land776 of Israel3478 a little6996 maid;5291 and she waited1961 6440 on Naaman's5283 wife.802

3 And she said559 to her mistress,1404 Would305 God my lord113 were with the prophet5030 that is in Samaria!8111 for he would recover622 him of his leprosy.6883

4 And one went935 in, and told5046 his lord,113 saying,559 Thus2063 and thus2063 said1696 the maid5291 that is of the land776 of Israel.3478

5 And the king4428 of Syria758 said,559 Go3212 to, go,935 and I will send7971 a letter5612 to the king4428 of Israel.3478 And he departed,3212 and took3947 with him ten6235 talents3603 of silver,3701 and six8337 thousand505 pieces of gold,2091 and ten6235 changes2487 of raiment.899

6 And he brought935 the letter5612 to the king4428 of Israel,3478 saying,559 Now6258 when this2088 letter5612 is come935 to you, behold,2009 I have therewith sent7971 Naaman5283 my servant5650 to you, that you may recover622 him of his leprosy.6883

7 And it came1961 to pass, when the king4428 of Israel3478 had read7121 the letter,5612 that he rent7167 his clothes,899 and said,559 Am I God,430 to kill4191 and to make alive,2421 that this2088 man does send7971 to me to recover622 a man376 of his leprosy?6883 why3588 389 consider,3045 I pray4994 you, and see7200 how3588 he seeks579 a quarrel579 against me.

8 And it was so, when Elisha477 the man376 of God430 had heard8085 that the king4428 of Israel3478 had rent7167 his clothes,899 that he sent7971 to the king,4428 saying,559 Why4100 have you rent7167 your clothes?899 let him come935 now4994 to me, and he shall know3045 that there is a prophet5030 in Israel.3478

9 So Naaman5283 came935 with his horses5483 and with his chariot,7393 and stood5975 at the door6607 of the house1004 of Elisha.477

10 And Elisha477 sent7971 a messenger4397 to him, saying,559 Go1980 and wash7364 in Jordan3383 seven7651 times,6471 and your flesh1320 shall come7725 again7725 to you, and you shall be clean.2891

11 But Naaman5283 was wroth,7107 and went3212 away, and said,559 Behold,2009 I thought,559 He will surely come3318 out to me, and stand,5975 and call7121 on the name8034 of the LORD3068 his God,430 and strike5130 his hand3027 over413 the place,4725 and recover622 the leper.6879

12 Are not Abana71 and Pharpar,6554 rivers5104 of Damascus,1834 better2896 than all3605 the waters4325 of Israel?3478 may I not wash7364 in them, and be clean?2891 So he turned6437 and went3212 away in a rage.2534

13 And his servants5650 came5066 near,5066 and spoke1696 to him, and said,559 My father,1 if the prophet5030 had bid1696 you do some great1419 thing,1697 would you not have done6213 it? how637 much637 3588 rather then, when3588 he said559 to you, Wash,7364 and be clean?2891

14 Then went3381 he down,3381 and dipped2881 himself seven7651 times6471 in Jordan,3383 according to the saying1697 of the man376 of God:430 and his flesh1320 came7725 again7725 like to the flesh1320 of a little6995 child,5288 and he was clean.2891

15 And he returned7725 to the man376 of God,430 he and all3605 his company,4264 and came,935 and stood5975 before6440 him: and he said,559 Behold,2009 now4994 I know3045 that there is no369 God430 in all3605 the earth,776 but in Israel:3478 now6258 therefore, I pray4994 you, take3947 a blessing1293 of your servant.5650

16 But he said,559 As the LORD3068 lives,2416 before6440 whom834 I stand,5975 I will receive3947 none. And he urged6484 him to take3947 it; but he refused.3985

17 And Naaman5283 said,559 Shall there not then, I pray4994 you, be given5414 to your servant5650 two mules'6505 burden4853 of earth?127 for your servant5650 will from now on5750 offer6213 neither3808 burnt5930 offering nor sacrifice2077 to other312 gods,430 but to the LORD.3068

18 In this2088 thing1697 the LORD3068 pardon5545 your servant,5650 that when my master113 goes935 into the house1004 of Rimmon7417 to worship7812 there,8033 and he leans8172 on5921 my hand,3027 and I bow7812 myself in the house1004 of Rimmon:7417 when I bow7812 down7812 myself in the house1004 of Rimmon,7417 the LORD3068 pardon5545 your servant5650 in this2088 thing.1697

19 And he said559 to him, Go3212 in peace.7965 So he departed3212 from him a little3530 way.776

20 But Gehazi,1522 the servant5288 of Elisha477 the man376 of God,430 said,559 Behold,2009 my master113 has spared2820 Naaman5283 this2088 Syrian,761 in not receiving3947 at his hands3027 that which834 he brought:935 but, as the LORD3068 lives,2416 I will run7323 after310 him, and take3947 somewhat3972 of him.

21 So Gehazi1522 followed7291 after310 Naaman.5283 And when Naaman5283 saw7200 him running7323 after310 him, he lighted5307 down from the chariot4818 to meet7125 him, and said,559 Is all well?7965

22 And he said,559 All is well.7965 My master113 has sent7971 me, saying,559 Behold,2009 even now6258 there be come935 to me from mount2022 Ephraim669 two8147 young5288 men of the sons1121 of the prophets:5030 give5414 them, I pray4994 you, a talent3603 of silver,3701 and two8147 changes2487 of garments.899

23 And Naaman5283 said,559 Be content,2974 take3947 two talents.3603 And he urged6555 him, and bound6887 two8147 talents3603 of silver3701 in two8147 bags,2754 with two8147 changes2487 of garments,899 and laid5414 them on two8147 of his servants;5288 and they bore5375 them before6440 him.

24 And when he came935 to the tower,6076 he took3947 them from their hand,3027 and bestowed6485 them in the house:1004 and he let the men582 go,7971 and they departed.3212

25 But he went935 in, and stood5975 before413 his master.113 And Elisha477 said559 to him, From where370 come you, Gehazi?1522 And he said,559 Your servant5650 went1980 no3808 where.575

26 And he said559 to him, Went1980 not my heart3820 with you, when3588 the man376 turned2015 again from his chariot4818 to meet7125 you? Is it a time6256 to receive3947 money,3701 and to receive3947 garments,899 and olive groves,2132 and vineyards,3754 and sheep,6629 and oxen,1241 and menservants,5650 and maidservants?8198

27 The leprosy6883 therefore of Naaman5283 shall stick1692 to you, and to your seed2233 for ever.5769 And he went3318 out from his presence6440 a leper6879 as white as snow.7950

Chapter 5

1 NOW Naaman, general of the army of the king of Aram, was a great man with his master, and honorable, because by him the LORD had given deliverance to Aram; and Naaman was a valiant man, but he was a leper.

2 And the Arameans had gone out raiding, and had brought away captive out of the land of Israel a little maid; and she waited on Naaman's wife.

3 And she said to her mistress, Blessed would be my lord if he would go to the prophet who is in Samaria! for he would immediately cure him of his leprosy.

4 And they went in and told her lord, saying, Thus and thus said the maid who is from the land of Israel.

5 And the king of Aram said to him, Come, go, I will send a letter to the king of Israel. And he departed and took with him ten talents of silver and six thousand pieces of gold and ten changes of garments.

6 And he brought the letter to the king of Israel, and this was written in it: In the hour when this letter reaches you, behold, I have sent to you Naaman my servant that you may heal him of his leprosy.

7 And when the king of Israel had read the letter, he tore his clothes and said, Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this man sends me a man to heal him of his leprosy? Wherefore consider, and see how he is seeking to pick a quarrel with me.

8 land when Elisha the prophet of God had heard that the king of Israel had torn his clothes, he sent to the king, saying, Why have you torn your clothes? Let him come now to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel.

9 So Naaman came with his horses and with his chariots, and stood at the door of the house of Elisha.

10 And Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall come again to you and you shall be clean.

11 But Naaman was angry, and went away and said, Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me and stand and call on the name of the LORD his God and wave his hand over the place, and I will recover from the leprosy.

12 Are not Amnan and Pharpar, rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? I will go and wash in them and be clean. So he turned and went away in a rage.

13 And his servants came near and spoke to him and said, Our lord, if the prophet had told you to do some great tiling, you would have done it; but behold, he has told you to do a small thing. Go and wash, and be clean. And he listened to them and did so.

14 And he went down and washed seven times in the Jordan, according to the saying of the prophet of God; and his flesh came again like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.

15 And he returned to the prophet of God, he and all his company, and came and stood before him, and said to him, Behold, now I know that there is no God in all the earth but in Israel; now therefore, take this blessing from your servant.

16 But Elisha said, As the LORD lives, before whom I stand, I will receive none. And be urged him to take it; but he refused.

17 And Naaman said, Shall there not then be given to your servant two mules' burden of earth? For your servant will henceforth offer neither burnt offerings nor sacrifices to any other god but to the LORD.

18 In this matter may the LORD forgive your servant, when my master goes into the house of Rimmon to worship there; I am the king's aide and I worship also in the house of Rimmon; and when I worship in the house of Rimmon, the LORD pardon your servant in this matter.

19 And he said to him, Go in peace. So he departed from him a little way.

20 Then Gehazi the disciple of Elisha the prophet of God, said, Behold, my lord has spared Naaman the Aramean, in not accepting from him that which he brought; but, as the LORD lives, I will run after him, and take something from him.

21 So Gehazi ran after Naaman. And when Naaman saw him running after him, he alighted from his chariot to meet him and said to him, Is all well?

22 And he said, All is well. My master has sent me, saying, There have just now come to me from mount Ephraim two men of the sons of the prophets; give them a talent of silver and two changes of garments.

23 And Naaman said, I am willing; take two talents. And he urged him and bound two talents of silver in two pieces of cloth, with two changes of garments, and he gave them to two of his servants; and they carried them before him.

24 And when they came to a secret place, he took them from their hand and put them in the house; and he sent the men away and they departed.

25 But he went in and stood before his master. And Elisha said to him, Where have you been, Gehazi? And he said, Your servant went nowhere.

26 And he said to him, My heart told me when the man alighted from his chariot to meet you. Is it a time to gain money and to gain garments and oliveyards and vineyards and sheep and oxen and menservants and maidservants?

27 The leprosy therefore of Naaman shall cleave to you and to your descendants for ever. And he went out from his presence a leper as white as snow.

6 And he brought the letter to the king of Israel, and this was written in it: In the hour when this letter reaches you, behold, I have sent to you Naaman my servant that you may heal him of his leprosy.

8 land when Elisha the prophet of God had heard that the king of Israel had torn his clothes, he sent to the king, saying, Why have you torn your clothes? Let him come now to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel.

9 So Naaman5283 came935 with his horses5483 and with his chariot,7393 and stood5975 at the door6607 of the house1004 of Elisha.477

9 So Naaman came with his horses and with his chariots, and stood at the door of the house of Elisha.

10 And Elisha477 sent7971 a messenger4397 to him, saying,559 Go1980 and wash7364 in Jordan3383 seven7651 times,6471 and your flesh1320 shall come7725 again7725 to you, and you shall be clean.2891

10 And Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall come again to you and you shall be clean.

11 But Naaman was angry, and went away and said, Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me and stand and call on the name of the LORD his God and wave his hand over the place, and I will recover from the leprosy.

12 Are not Abana71 and Pharpar,6554 rivers5104 of Damascus,1834 better2896 than all3605 the waters4325 of Israel?3478 may I not wash7364 in them, and be clean?2891 So he turned6437 and went3212 away in a rage.2534

12 Are not Amnan and Pharpar, rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? I will go and wash in them and be clean. So he turned and went away in a rage.

14 And he went down and washed seven times in the Jordan, according to the saying of the prophet of God; and his flesh came again like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.

15 And he returned to the prophet of God, he and all his company, and came and stood before him, and said to him, Behold, now I know that there is no God in all the earth but in Israel; now therefore, take this blessing from your servant.

16 But he said,559 As the LORD3068 lives,2416 before6440 whom834 I stand,5975 I will receive3947 none. And he urged6484 him to take3947 it; but he refused.3985

16 But Elisha said, As the LORD lives, before whom I stand, I will receive none. And be urged him to take it; but he refused.

17 And Naaman said, Shall there not then be given to your servant two mules' burden of earth? For your servant will henceforth offer neither burnt offerings nor sacrifices to any other god but to the LORD.

18 In this matter may the LORD forgive your servant, when my master goes into the house of Rimmon to worship there; I am the king's aide and I worship also in the house of Rimmon; and when I worship in the house of Rimmon, the LORD pardon your servant in this matter.

19 And he said559 to him, Go3212 in peace.7965 So he departed3212 from him a little3530 way.776

19 And he said to him, Go in peace. So he departed from him a little way.

20 Then Gehazi the disciple of Elisha the prophet of God, said, Behold, my lord has spared Naaman the Aramean, in not accepting from him that which he brought; but, as the LORD lives, I will run after him, and take something from him.

21 So Gehazi1522 followed7291 after310 Naaman.5283 And when Naaman5283 saw7200 him running7323 after310 him, he lighted5307 down from the chariot4818 to meet7125 him, and said,559 Is all well?7965

21 So Gehazi ran after Naaman. And when Naaman saw him running after him, he alighted from his chariot to meet him and said to him, Is all well?

22 And he said,559 All is well.7965 My master113 has sent7971 me, saying,559 Behold,2009 even now6258 there be come935 to me from mount2022 Ephraim669 two8147 young5288 men of the sons1121 of the prophets:5030 give5414 them, I pray4994 you, a talent3603 of silver,3701 and two8147 changes2487 of garments.899

22 And he said, All is well. My master has sent me, saying, There have just now come to me from mount Ephraim two men of the sons of the prophets; give them a talent of silver and two changes of garments.

23 And Naaman said, I am willing; take two talents. And he urged him and bound two talents of silver in two pieces of cloth, with two changes of garments, and he gave them to two of his servants; and they carried them before him.

24 And when he came935 to the tower,6076 he took3947 them from their hand,3027 and bestowed6485 them in the house:1004 and he let the men582 go,7971 and they departed.3212

24 And when they came to a secret place, he took them from their hand and put them in the house; and he sent the men away and they departed.

25 But he went935 in, and stood5975 before413 his master.113 And Elisha477 said559 to him, From where370 come you, Gehazi?1522 And he said,559 Your servant5650 went1980 no3808 where.575
